What counts as a word?
The counter treats groups of letters, numbers and apostrophes separated by whitespace or punctuation as words. Hyphenated terms are counted as one word. Results may differ slightly from a word processor because applications use different segmentation rules.
Reading and speaking time
Reading time uses an average of 200 words per minute. Speaking time uses 130 words per minute, a practical pace for presentations and voice-over scripts.
